This publication shows and analyzes the work of the artist Ana Amorim (São Paulo, 1956) in three periods. It presents a text by Álvaro de los Ángeles that links his artistic work and his life with writing and with the fabric of stories and stories that make up contemporary life; It brings together a commented selection of twenty of his works and performances made between 1987 and 2023, and offers an unpublished work, 50 days, made expressly. As a case study, this “mental map” exposes the artist’s underlying ethical concerns between the personal and the political during the last fifty days of 2021.

Ana Amorim was born in São Paulo in 1956, into an Italian-Portuguese family. The first contacts with art, in 1980, were made through drawing. Her artistic concerns drift towards conceptual practices that lead her to complete her first mental maps starting in 1988. In 2001 she wrote Art Contract, a decisive political work in her work that places her in a point of no return. With this contract, the artist committed to not collaborate with agents of the art system that received financial support from companies and corporations whose ethical reputation was questionable. In 2016 he interrupted the restrictive conditions of this contract and in 2019 he began to operate with galleries—for the first time in his career—and with museums. Since then, his artistic interest combines the small domestic stories of his life with the events and political changes of global history.
